SCOTTISH VETERANS TIME TRIAL ASSOCIATION

JohanThayne, Glasgow Wheelers, the newly elected president of the SVTTA. Our very first woman president replacing Archie Speed. Archie retired from the position after about 5 years due entirely to failing health.

Our President Johan Thayne, has undergone an eye operation. Some years ago Johan was involved in an accident with a badminton shuttle which impacted into her eye. This has developed being concluded hopefully with an eye operation. Whilst Johan is home she will be taking it easy and being forced to reduce her 50 miles per day training schedule.

The morning of the SC National 10 brought much excitement to the Cambusbarron course. However it was all doused when we were informed that Robbie Robertson has passed away during his sleep. "Big Robbie" as he was affectionately known had been a member of the Glasgow Road Club for many years. He had been a keen cyclists never short of an opportunity to voice his opinion. Big Robbie to me conjures up a picture at Largs pier on the early hours of the morning as we set off for Millport. "Howzit gawing ya auld baskit" was his warm greeting. Later the ferry sailed without us and after Robbie volunteered to throw the Cal Mac ferry off the pier we all got a special ferry but only after the van was manhandled to the end of the pier. Robbie always possessed that special social skill. He was a real character and will surely be missed.

Mr Harris, who offered a few words at the funeral of Robbie Robertson stated that Wullie Burns had died. This statement turned out to be unfounded.Big JJ apologises profusely for making this statement which in essence he had been told was true.     Geo Stewart

The Robbie Robertson Memorial placed at the 10tt Westferry finish by his son Scott.

It was great to see Archie Speed at the National 10TT at Cambusbarron. Archie was on form as he passed amongst the competitors. Jack Campbell appeared at the TLI Spider Spurious Road Race. He was with Sanny Bain as the two went off for stewarding duties.

It takes a big man to do a big job so for the big job at the National 25TT they sent Derek Stewart, Deeside Thistle. Derek had been saddled with the position of " Director of Doing Well and winning trophies" This Deeside superhuman veteran trundled to England to face stiff competition. Of course Derek was committed to doing his best. However on the day he had to contend with an 80 year old  Dennis Milsom who stopped the watch at 1-6-07 giving him a +22.13. Derek, meanwhile had turned in an impressive 1-3-07 with the complicated deduction of age standards it was a plus 20.00. It was enough to give Derek the dry boke. I expect the Scottish Cycling PR department will have pursued him for an exclusive interview for the slick coloured newsletter.
